That’s all we want as authors is good reviews. Though we should also take a moment to help out our fellow authors and give them the reviews they deserve and we hope for. Goodreads is a wonderful platform for this and keeps them recorded on your own author profile so your fans know what you read and how you feel about the books you read.
It is also the quality of your reviews though. Anyone can rate a book but a proper review allows the person considering the book to read an insight from your perspective. This means you need to give a little more than ‘It’s a good book’ but not so much as to spoil it for the considering reader.
You also need to be honest and rate/review the book as it is, otherwise people will begin to mistrust your reviews. I personally pick books I believe I’m going to enjoy, as I think most people would, no one likes to read a genre that they do not like. For me I enjoy anything gothic horror/paranormal so you are unlikely to get me interested in a comedy or drama.
As an author with Austin Macauley, I have been helping out my colleges within Austin’s Authors and not only reviewing but passing the book onto my local library for them to receive some added exposure. Why not? When Austin’s will freely send me a copy, I feel it will do more good there than being added to my own extensive library at home, to gather dust. Though I am also open to reviewing any author’s book so long as it is a genre I am interested in and again if it is not at my cost I am happy to pass the book along. So by all means send me a message if you want my thoughts on your book.
All authors were once readers too, so don’t forget the piles of books you have already read and try to go back over them and write reviews where you can.
* Review the Past
* Review the Present
* Hope for reviews in your own future 😉
